TOPICAL PAIN RELIEVERS
Topical pain relievers may temporarily ease the discomfort from arthritis or related conditions. The medication comes in creams, gels or sprays. They are absorbed through the skin. There are some that may reduce inflammation. Others may relieve pain in joints close to the skin surface such as your fingers, knees and elbows.
Listed are some of the different topical pain relievers:
• Arthricare Double Ice, Euchalyptamint and Icy Hot. These may be creams, gels or sprays and may
temporarily take pain away.
• Ben-Gay, Aspercreme and Sportscreme. These may reduce inflammation when absorbed through the skin.
• Capsaicin (Capzasin-P, Zostrix). This is a cream made from hot chili pepper seeds and may relieve pain in joints that are close to the skin surface.
