Local Physician to Serve as Co-Editor for New National Publication
Dr. Matt Gammons will join top medical professionals as a founding editor of sports-health journal
Rutland, Vt.—March 10, 2008—The Board of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) recently named Dr. Matthew Gammons as Associate Editor of an informative new national publication that will be launched early next year. Dr. Gammons is a primary-care physician at both the Killington Medical Clinic and Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic, as well as a staff member for Rutland Regional Health Services. He will serve the AMSSM and the publication as its Associate Editor—Primary Care Section. In his nomination, Dr. Gammons joins several other distinguished orthopaedic and general practice physicians who will collaboratively contribute to and edit this comprehensive new sports medicine-focused publication.
Entitled Sports Health: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach, the publication will be launched in January, 2009, and distributed bi-monthly thereafter. Sports Health will be targeted to the sports-related medical community, serving as both a compendium of and forum for leading-edge treatments in this medical category.
“We are excited to have Dr. Gammons as our section’s associate editor, and also to be a partner in the development of this new sports medicine journal,” noted ASSM President, Dr. Craig Young. “We hope this publication creates a great forum for collaboration among the primary care, orthopaedic, physical therapy and athletic training communities.”
Dr. Gammons brings extensive experience to the AMSSM editorial staff. In addition to working with the two local clinics in the care and treatment of sports-related injuries, he also serves as Team Physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams. Dr. Gammons has also served as a peer reviewer for American Family Physician, Journal of Family Practice and Family Management. In 2006, he won the AMSSM’s Harry Galanty Young Investigators Award for outstanding research in his field.
The AMSSM and its adjunct organization, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) are world leaders in sports medicine education, research, communication and fellowship. Its members include some of the top national and international orthopaedic sports medicine specialists and practitioners.
