Self Help

Self help is a very important treatment and one that you have to be dedicated to doing. Self help is knowing yourself and how to manage your arthritis. It involves you being informed and knowing what to expect.

Arthritis affects people in different ways. It may affect what you do and how you look. It may change the shape and size of certain joints of your body. It may change the way your skin looks. You may have to make changes in your life style and what you wear to accommodate these changes.

Most people wonĚt be able to tell by looking at you that you have arthritis. You should become the manager of your condition. Being a good manager means knowing the consequences if you are not in control.

You may have to plan your activities for your best time of the day. You can learn to manage your arthritis symptoms and how they affect your daily activities. Doing this will help you feel better.

Another important way to manage your arthritis is to work with your doctor and other health care professionals that may be involved in your care. This would include discussing changes in what you are able to do and what is or isnĚt working for treatments.

Coping with arthritis involves skills that help you manage the changes that arthritis may bring to your life. There may be periods of depression from the changes in your level of activity and body changes.

Talk about these changes with your family and friends. Do not be hesitant to ask for help when you need it. There may be a time when you want to joint a support group and share your feelings with people coping with the same condition as you are.
