Post Traumatic Arthritis

Definition
Also known as Osteonecrosis or Avascular Necrosis. When bone dies from decreased blood flow overtime. With this, the bone eventually begins to develop breaks and collapse.

Parts of the body that may be involved
Any bone but most often in the hip joint.

Who is affected
Can occur in male or female of all ages.

Signs and Symptoms (Slow to start)

  • Pain in affected joint
  • Limitations of motion of affected joint
  • Joint stiffness
  • Muscle spasms

Causes
Rheumatic disease is a definite cause. People who take high doses of steroids may develop this form of arthritis. Alcoholism is a know cause. Injury or fracture to the bone which causes loss of blood supply.
