Fibromyalgia

Definition
Fibromyalgia means: "pain in ligaments, tendons and muscles". It is a syndrome meaning that the signs and symptoms may be found in other conditions. It is a not a form of arthritis as it does not cause damage to joints.

Parts of the body that may be involved
May affect the entire body. It may start localized to one area as in the neck and shoulders then spread to other areas.

Who is affected
Adults both male and female

Signs and Symptoms

  • Pain throughout body
  • Aching, tender points
  • Fatigue and poor sleep pattern
  • Changes in mood and thinking
  • Depressed
  • Headaches
  • Abdominal pain and bloating
  • Constipation and diarrhea

Causes
Stresses, illness, hormonal changes, trauma both physical or emotional, Inappropriate exercise and poor posture may cause Fibromyalgia.
